The Internet of Services describes a paradigm in Computer Science in which electronic services are delivered by other fine-grained services. This IT architecture enables the consumption of resources provided by external service providers. The resulting markets especially help to reduce internal capital expenditures. Viewed abstractly, division of labour is enabled on a very fine-grained level through this technological innovation. The required infrastructure is provided by the Internet. Because of the decentralized and open nature of the Internet of Services, conventional methods of access control are not always sufficient to address all problems associated with this division of labour. Given the decentralized nature of the Internet as a basic infrastructure, it is impossible, for example, to implement a central monitoring and enforcement mechanism that enables the exclusion of participants with fraudulent intentions. To address this problem, this book proposes the use of socio-economic mechanisms based on reputation and negotiation. Reputation mechanisms have mainly been discussed in the field of electronic commerce; they give participants an economic incentive to behave in accordance with the agreed rules and norms. Negotiation mechanisms are a topic in the area of distributed systems and allow the selection partners based on economic criteria. Hypotheses can be derived from the literature through the analysis of the combination of negotiation and reputation mechanisms to ensure compliance to rules and norms in the Internet of Services. In particular, these hypotheses focus on the effectiveness of the combination of reputation mechanisms and negotiation protocols. While in auction, reverse auction and bargaining protocols at least one configuration can be found that meets the requirements for effectiveness, a suitable configuration is not possible for double auctions. The hypotheses of this book are verified by simulation experiments. Simulation ex ...
