Vintage silver print photograph of Winston Churchill and Stefan Lorant, by Kurt Hutton. 9- 3/4 by 7- 1/4 inches. Kurt Hutton, born Kurt Hübschmann (1893-1960), was a German-born photographer who pioneered photojournalism in England. Stefan Lorant (1901-1997) was a pioneering Hungarian-American filmmaker, photojournalist, and author The full-length photograph depicts Winston Churchill and Stefan Lorant (editor of the 'Picture Post'), outside Churchill's Chartwell, Kent estate, standing side-by-side (with Churchill's country home visible in the background). Winston Churchill is dressed in a dark-colored, double-breasted overcoat, and dark-colored fedora, with a cane in his right hand. Stefan Lorant (who is standing adjacent Churchill) is dressed in a dark-colored three-piece suit, and tie, with both hands in his pants pockets. Churchill and Lorant are facing each other; Lorant is smiling, and Churchill is appears to be smirking, with his eyes narrowed. From a series of photographs of Stefan Lorant's meeting with Winston Churchill, taken by Kurt Hutton, at Churchill's country estate, for an article published in a February, 1939 issue of the 'Picture Post' (Stefan Lorant was editor at the time)[. From the estate of Stefan Lorant, with his later rubberstamp on verso: "Stefan Lorant's Collection," and with Lorant's annotations (in blue and black ink): "1939 February Chartwell, Kent. 1939 original vintage enlargement. S. L."
