In den WarenkorbLimited edition, number 6 of 20 copies on Japon, numbered & signed by the artist and author on the justification, from a total edition of 300, 4to (32.3 x 24.3 cm); illustrated with eight full-page pochoir plates coloured by Saudé, with an extra suite in black; original illustrated cloth portfolio wrapper bound in, black calf by Miguet with cut-outs showing coloured morocco spots of the suede guards inspired by plate V, text in red, blue and green gilt to spine, chemise and slipcase, a fine copy. Miro's first artist's book. One of 20 copies on Japon with an extra suite in black. Lise Deharme is widely known for being a Surrealist muse after André Breton referred to her as 'La Dame au Gant' [The Lady with the Glove] in his book Nadja. She was also photographed Man Ray and hosted salons popular with the leading artists and writers of the time such as Joyce and Picasso. Although her legacy mainly remains in the shadow of the prominent male members of the Surrealist movement she was not merely a hostess but a prominent writer and editor of the magazine, Le Phare de Neuilly. Colette and Jean-Paul Miguet, who were active between 1951 and 1981, were among the most prolific designer bookbinders of the second half of the twentieth century. 'Their productions range from the purest classic to the most modern original creation, without ever falling into the binding-object which for them is a heresy. (.) Boundless advocates of high quality book binding, these two craftsmen argue that the bookbinder must never betray the author in the design of a set, or, possibly, the illustrator, but must define graphics and colours that will interpret them best, and this, in a perfection of execution' (Julien Fléty, Dictionary of French Binders, 1988).

In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Limited Edition. Paris, Éditions Georges Visat, 1968-1971. Limited to 160 copies (N. 12), with 35 reserved for artists and collaborators, printed on velin Arches and velin pur fil Lana. The portfolio includes 13 original etchings (10 in color, 3 in black-and-white), each signed and numbered in pencil by the artists: Pierre Alechinsky, Arman, Enrico Baj, Hans Bellmer, Camille Bryen, Max Ernst, Raoul Hausmann, Man Ray (2 etchings), Roberto Matta, Joan Miró, Hans Richter, and Dorothea Tanning. Each print is housed loose in an Arches paper folder embossed with the artist's name, inside of each folder dedication words from the artist to Marcel Duchamp, to complement the artwork. This edition, a tribute to Marcel Duchamp, one of the most revolutionary and influential artists of the 20th century. His legacy had a lasting impact on the Surrealist movement and beyond, and his influence is felt in the works of many artists included in this portfolio. The artists featured in this portfolio represent a diverse group, including figures associated with Surrealism, Dada, and Abstract Expressionism, among other movements. Some of them, like Max Ernst, Man Ray, and Joan Miró, were close collaborators of Duchamp, and their involvement speaks to the deep respect and influence Duchamp had on his contemporaries. Others, like Pierre Alechinsky and Arman, were part of the CoBrA movement, which sought to revitalize art through experimentation and spontaneity. The portfolio was initiated in September 1968, just one month before Duchamp death, and completed in March 1971. The work is presented loose as issued, housed in its original blue cloth slipcase and folder chemise, decorated with Marcel Duchamp's initials in silver. Complete and in very good condition, Miro prints with minor waviness at the edges. Dimensions: 38.5 x 29 cm. Signed by Illustrator(s).

From the edition limited to 200 copies, with this one of 169 copies on Auvergne with each volume signed by Tzara and the relevant artist in the relevant volume. 'By reading L'Antitête, which brings together, in book form, three anthologies written between 1916 and 1932, one can follow the development of Tzara. 'Monsieur AA l'Antiphilosophe' consists of texts written in the Dadaist manner. Tzara has dropped the consonants of 'Dada' and now one finds M. AA attacking not only the metaphysical systems intending to explain everything from A to Z, but also language itself . The second part of L'Antitête, 'Minuits pour Géants', makes the transition between Dadaist destruction and the free inspiration of Surrealism. In the third part, Tzara proposes a new language, 'Le Désésperanto', which would be capable of expressing the automatism of thought which reveals the subconscious in all its forms; now anxiety, even despair, characterize the collective images of the unconscious.' (Cramer, Picasso Illustrated Books, pg. 66, discussing the first edition of 1933). [Berggruen 33; Spies-Leppien 27/F (Ernst); Wittrock 17, A - C (Tanguy); Wember XII (Miró); see Cramer 20].
