In den WarenkorbFirst edition of this collection initiated by four of Edinburgh's most famous authors to benefit One City Trust, a charity committed to tackling social injustice and inequality in Edinburgh. Octavo, original illustrated wrappers. Boldly signed by Ian Rankin and Irvine Welsh on the half-title page. Introduction by J. K. Rowling. Foreword by Rt Hon. Lesley Hinds. In fine condition. OneCity Trust was established in Edinburgh in 2003 in response to the OneCity report of the Lord Provostâs Commission on Social Exclusion. Rowling states in her introduction to this work produced in support of the Trust, "As it happens, I have never lived so long anywhere either as adult or child, as I have lived here. Edinburgh is home now, it is part of me, and I had come to love it long before Harry Potter hit the bookshelves. I am proud to live here, and proud that my home city is committed to becoming a more inclusive place. OneCity seeks to unify: I cannot think of a better goal for Edinburgh, Scotland or the world.".

Peter Harrington is now the only source for new copies of this book, and we are also able to offer copies with an inscription by the bibliographer. If you would like an inscribed copy, please contact us. As noted by the blurb, "In addition to bibliographical details of each edition of all [Rowling's] books, pamphlets and original contributions to published works, there is detailed information on the publishing history of her work, including fascinating extracts from correspondence, and information on Rowling at auction. The paperback has been fully revised and updated to include over 50 new editions published since 2013. The works of Robert Galbraith are also included." The first edition was published in 2015 and, for a bibliography, it became an unexpected best-seller. This updated edition was first published in 2017. Writing in her short preface to the work, J. K. Rowling described the book as a "slavishly thorough and somewhat mind-boggling bibliography. I am humbled and deeply flattered". Cf. Errington B21(a) Quarto. 16 pp. colour illustrations, numerous black and white illustrations within the text. Original illustrated wrappers, spine and wrappers lettered in gilt and white. In den WarenkorbEarly edition of the third novel in Rowlingâs acclaimed Harry Potter series; from the library of William Goldman. Octavo, original pictorial boards illustrated by Cliff Wright. In near fine condition with some toning throughout, very light bumping to the spine and extremities, and an ownership stamp to the dedication page, "From the library of William Goldman (1931-2018) jrg." William Goldman was an American novelist, playwright, and screenwriter. The amazing mind behind the Academy Award-winning thriller film 'All the President's Men' and the cult classic fantastical comedy 'The Princess Bride,' Goldman's skilled storytelling has helped form the backdrop of cinematic and literary culture for a generation. British novelist Joanne (J.K.) Rowlingâs Harry Potter series has swiftly become the best-selling book series of all time with over 500 million copies sold. Born in Yale, Gloucestershire, England, Rowling rose to multi-millionaire status from relative poverty within a five-year period which also saw the death of her mother, birth of her first child, and divorce from her first husband. Themes of loss and darkness prevail throughout the series, in which a young wizard, Harry Potter, develops his magical powers at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and heroically attempts to overthrow the evil and powerful Lord Voldemort. The third novel in the series, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban won the 1999 Whitbread Children's Book Award, the Bram Stoker Award, the 2000 Locus Award for Best Fantasy Novel, and was short-listed for other awards, including the Hugo. The story follows Harry in his third year at Hogwarts, which starts off on bad note when he learns that the legendary and deranged murderer Sirius Black has escaped from Azkaban and is determined to end Harry's life. The film adaptation of the novel was released in 2004, grossing more than $796 million and earning critical acclaim. Directed by Alfonso Cuarà n from a screenplay by Steve Kloves, the film stars Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter, alongside Rupert Grint and Emma Watson as Harry's best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.

Harry Potter's award-winning wizarding adventures have had an unrivalled impact in popular culture today; indeed, some experts have referred to adults between the ages of roughly 20-30 years old as 'the Harry Potter generation', who are seen to hold markedly different values to their parents. Harry Potter is a series of many genres, including fantasy, bildungsroman, and the British school story (which includes elements of mystery, thriller, adventure, and romance). According to Rowling, the main theme of the books is death although prejudice, corruption, and madness can be seen as dominant motifs.

In den Warenkorb[Fantasy adventure] UNCORRECTED PROOF COPIES, SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR. Octavo (21 x 14cm), pp.315; later increased to 316. Publisher's typographic printed softcovers, in purple (earliest) or green (revised). Both versions state 'Joanne Rowling on c.p., which was carried over to a small number of first edition hardbacks (being the first issue). Each book is signed by the author; in addition, within the later proof, J.K. Rowling has circled the 'dedication' text on that page (which was not yet ready) and has queried this with an inked question mark. Accompanying the pair is an original memo dated 14th January 1999 from Roz de la Hay at Bloomsbury head office, discussing the nature of these proofs, the necessity for two versions; "there were a couple of changes made at the last minute which slightly affected the plot" and disclosing the print run; "150 of the new proof (green) and 31 of the old (purple)." She adds that the purple copies should only be distributed to trusted buyers, and the differences explained. The package is completed with an original letter from booksellers Broadhurst's of Southport, who supplied this pair in 2003. Fine, fresh copies with bright white edges and virtually no wear to covers. A superb pair, likely unique in such exceptional condition, signed state and with the Bloomsbury memo, which is of great bibliographical significance. It confirms the proof print run of just 31 copies (purple) and 150 copies (green). The number of proofs had previously been thought higher, the purple at some 50 copies and green at 250 copies. 'Azkaban' was the only Rowling title which needed two separate proofs, and was the third and final title for which proofs were printed.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is the pivotal fourth novel in the seven-part tale of Harry Potter's training as a wizard and his coming of age. "I'm relieved to report that Potter 4 is every bit as good as Potters 1 through 3 . . . The fantasy writer' job is to conduct the willing reader from mundanity to magic. This is a feat of which only a superior imagination in capable, and Rowling posses such equipment" (Stephen King, The New York Times Book Review). It is the basis for the 2005 film starring Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson.

In den WarenkorbFirst American edition of the fifth novel in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter Series. Octavo, original illustrated boards, illustrated by Mary Grandpre. Boldly signed by J.K. Rowling on the title page. Fine in a fine dust jacket. Jacket illustration by Mary GrandPre. Jacket design by Mary GrandPre and David Snyder. Rare and desirable signed. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, more than any of the four previous novels in the series, is a coming-of-age story. Harry faces the thorny transition into adulthood, when adult heroes are revealed to be fallible, and matters that seemed black-and-white suddenly come out in shades of gray. Gone is the wide-eyed innocent, the whiz kid of Sorcerer's Stone. Here we have an adolescent who's sometimes sullen, often confused, and always self-questioning. Confronting death again, as well as a startling prophecy, Harry ends his year at Hogwarts exhausted and pensive. "The Order of the Phoenix starts slow, gathers speed and then skateboards, with somersaults, to its furious conclusion. As Harry gets older, Rowling gets better." (John Leonard, The New York Times). It was made into the 2007 film directed by David Yates, starring Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter, alongside Rupert Grint and Emma Watson as Harry's best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.
