Illustrated by the Hungarian graphic designer, Anna Tedesco (1903-1969). . Small traces of creasing at the cover. Spine slightly tanned and dusted. Light water stains on the rear cover. Some pages slightly creased, presumably by the printing-house. Pages yellowed due to acidic paper. Overall in very good condition. In publisher's coloured illustrated wrappers.

Dean Benjamin McLaughlin, Jr. (b. 1931) is an American science fiction author whose novels include Hawk Among the Sparrows (1968), which was nominated for the Hugo and Nebula awards for Best Novella, and Dawn (1980), inspired by Asimov's own Nightfall (1941). This landmark collection of short stories includes "Liar", in which the author coined the term "robotics", and "Runaround", in which he sets out for the first time his Three Laws of Robotics. "Upon realizing he had coined a new and lasting word, Asimov recognized the uniquely profitable position he had created for himself, and along with the successful prediction of space travel, self-driving cars, and war-computers among others, would go on to position himself as a sort of friendly-but-rough-around-the-edges technological herald, someone entertaining, trustworthy, and often right" (Jung). Inscribed on the title page: "To Merrill Panitt, with love. Isaac Asimov / 1 April 1981 / (pages 344, 779)." This copy was inscribed to Merrill Panitt (1918-1994), the founder and editorial director of TV Guide. During World War II, Panitt served on the staff of Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower, where he came to the attention of Walter Annenberg, the publisher of The Philadelphia Inquirer. Panitt joined The Inquirer in 1945 and worked with Annenberg to found TV Guide in 1953. He later became the director of Triangle Publications, the publisher of TV Guide, Seventeen Magazine, and many more.
