Er begnügte sich jedoch nicht mit der Wahl von 43 Farbtönen, die er auf seine Erfahrung als Architekt und Maler abstützte, vielmehr organisierte er die Töne auf 12 Musterkarten so, dass mit einem Schieber jeweils drei bis fünf Farben isoliert bzw. kombiniert werden können. Jede dieser Karten beinhaltete eine andersartige Farbstimmung, die in der Anwendung eine bestimmte Raumwirkung hervorrufen sollte. Damit war nicht nur ein nützliches Werkzeug geschaffen, sondern auch eine Art Testament der puristischen Farbenlehre entstanden: eine unentbehrliche Grundlage und ein wertvolles Arbeitsinstrument für alle, die sich in Theorie und Praxis mit Farbe auseinandersetzen. Le Corbusier-Spezialist Arthur Rüegg erläutert die Bedeutung der Salubra-Kollektionen für die Geschichte der modernen Architektur und stellt im Nachwort zur dritten Auflage die Erkenntnisse dar, zu denen die Forschung in den letzten zwanzig Jahren gelangt ist. Der zweite Band beinhaltet 13 Farbtafeln mit insgesamt 63 Farbtönen und 4 separate Schieber, der dritte Band 63 ganzseitige Farbmusterblätter. This is followed by 14 double-page wallpaper samples, interspersed with three colour photographs of rooms, and 20 plates showing colours available. At the rear is an acetate pocket containing two card viewing frames. Inside the rear cover is a series of colour swatches. Cloth-backed boards held with three metal rivets, the front cover being glossy and pictorial. The wallpaper company Salubra had issued a more modestly presented selection of Le Corbusier's designs in 1932.Three of the sample pages are slightly chipped to top edges. The rivets slightly affected by rust. Cloth at tail of spine just a little rubbed. Cloth a little spotted and marked. Corners a bit rubbed. Very good and difficult to find in complete condition.

Levine's 42 monochrome plates on mahagony were inspired by Le Corbusier's Polychromie architecturale". Fine copy.

A striking pamphlet (19 x 24 cm) promoting wallpapers from the sophisticated German company Tekko & Salubra. Swedish text. The catalogue comprises six pages of text (loosely inserted), ten colour wallpaper samples, of which five silk samples in metallic tone, eleven more illustrations, of which two colourful Art Déco interiors by A. Trueb. Original decorated covers, printed in silver and gold on black paper, spine nicely restored. Some browning, rusty staples, one sample with small loss, some annotations. Tekko & Salubra, founded in 1901 in Grenzach (Basden-Würtemberg), developed successfully over the years. Famous artists were asked to design collections, Le Corbusier being one of them.

Oblong folio, 360 x 240 mm., bound in original publisher's cloth-backed illustrated boards. Basel: Salubra, 1959. Le Corbusier designed two collections of colours for the Salubra wallpaper company, the "Clavier de Couleurs" of 1931, with 43 colours, and this 1959 collection, with 20 colours. In this second collection, reflecting the changes in his views, the 20 single colours are assembled on a single clavier. In the first collection he organized the tones on 12 sample cards in such a manner that one could use a slider to isolate or combine different sets of three to five colours. Each of these cards contained a different chromatic atmosphere, intended to produce a particular spatial effect. Thus Le Corbusier not only created a useful tool but also a kind of testament of the purist theory of colour. Although not as rare as the legendary first collection, this is still rare and even more so in such fine condition.

Oblong folio, 285 x 220 mm., bound in original publisher's boards, in a new cloth folding box. [Basel]: Salubra, [1931]. Incredibly rare first edition of Le Corbusier's legendary Farbenklaviatur. Le Corbusier first sketched the premises of a logically structured system for color design in the magazine l'Esprit nouveau in 1921. In 1931 he published the first of the two collections of colours which he designed for the Salubra wallpaper company. In his own words, "These Keyboards of Colour aim at stimulating personal selection, by placing the task of choosing on a sound systematic basis. In my opinion they offer a method of approach which is accurate and effective, one which makes it possible to plan, in the modern home, colour harmonies which are definitely architectural and yet suited to the natural taste and needs of the individual." In this first collection, he organized the tones on 12 sample cards in such a manner that one could use a slider to isolate or combine different sets of three to five colours. Each of these cards contained a different chromatic atmosphere, intended to produce a particular spatial effect. Thus, Le Corbusier not only created a useful tool but also a kind of testament to the purist theory of colour. First three wallpaper samples with some minor chipping, but otherwise a remarkably well-preserved copy of what was a working tool, of which almost no copies have survived.
