In den WarenkorbZustand: as new. Minneapolis, MN. : Univ of Minnesota Press, 2012. Paperback. 256 pp. English text. Condition : as new. - Gregg Lambert demonstrates that since the publication of Proust and Signs in 1964 Gilles Deleuze's search for a new means of philosophical expression became a central theme of all of his oeuvre, including those written with psychoanalyst Félix Guattari. Lambert, like Deleuze, calls this "the image of thought." Lambert's exploration begins with Deleuze's earliest exposition of the Proustian image of thought and then follows the "tangled history" of the image that runs through subsequent works, such as Kafka: Toward a Minor Literature, The Rhizome (which serves as an introduction to Deleuze's A Thousand Plateaus), and several later writings from the 1980s collected in Essays Critical and Clinical. Lambert shows how this topic underlies Deleuze's studies of modern cinema, where the image of thought is predominant in the analysis of the cinematic image--particularly in The Time-Image. Lambert finds it to be the fundamental concern of the brain proposed by Deleuze in the conclusion of What Is Philosophy? By connecting the various appearances of the image of thought that permeate Deleuze's entire corpus, Lambert reveals how thinking first assumes an image, how the images of thought become identified with the problem of expression early in the works, and how this issue turns into a primary motive for the more experimental works of philosophy written with Guattari. The study traces a distinctly modern relationship between philosophy and non-philosophy (literature and cinema especially) that has developed into a hallmark of the term "Deleuzian." However, Lambert argues, this aspect of the philosopher's vision has not been fully appreciated in terms of its significance for philosophy: "not only 'for today' but, to quote Nietzsche, meaning also 'for tomorrow, and for the day after tomorrow.'" Condition : as new copy. ISBN 9780816678037. Keywords : PHILOSOPHY, Deleuze, Gilles (1925-1995).

Zustand: Sehr gut. 248 Pages, 16.76 x 23.88 cm - Without the work of French artist, poet, publisher, activist and translator Jean-Jacques Lebel (born 1936), the emergence of happenings in 1960s Europe would be hard to imagine. From the very outset of the decade, Lebel was instigating happenings; often politically themed; in Venice, Milan, London, Paris and New York, as the leading exponent for this new form of performance and a close associate of the Living Theater. In 1979 he founded the Polyphonix Festival, devoted to sound poetry and performance art. This hefty volume provides the most comprehensive overview of the life and oeuvre of this diversely talented figure. At its core are his happenings of the 1960s, all of which are documented with numerous illustrations and analyzed in detail by Alyce Mahon. Lebel's longstanding friend, the philosopher and psychiatrist Félix Guattari, supplies an essay on the artist's methods, and in an extensive interview Lebel discusses the importance of Deleuze and Guattari's concept of the "rhizome" for his work.

Zieht Linien, setzt keinen Punkt!" (Deleuze/ Guattari). Gramm 600.

Most radical of all is the possibility that the very notion of literature is rendered untenable by postmodernism. How did this possibility arise? Who are the key figures responsible for its emergence; which are the key texts of its expression? -- This Anthology provides ways of responding to such questions and at the same time showing that postmodern literary theory cannot be understood in terms of an archive or a method. Its defining feature is an attitude of questioning, which neither derives from a manifesto nor constitutes a movement. -- Postmodern literary theory hasn't come from nowhere, however. Its beginnings lie in certain ideas associated with, among others, Barthes and Foucault in the 1970s, and in the disavowal of values and the questioning of Literature associated with the eighteenth century Romantics. Although postmodern literary theory does have some foundational texts and founding figures, these work to undo the very notion of 'foundations' -including that of literature itself. It is this work (rather than some archive) which Postmodern Literary Theory: An Anthology is designed to show. What is anthologized here, in short, are concepts, arguments, practices and debates. -- Students will be guided to read each chapter as a particular response to a specific problem or concept relating to the overall theme. This theme is that postmodernism is concerned with only one thing - the question of literature. Neuware - ''There is always an atheism to be extracted from a religion,' Deleuze and Guattari write in their final collaboration, What Is Philosophy Their claim that Christianity 'secretes' atheism 'more than any other religion,' however, reflects the limits of their archive. Theological projects seeking to engage Deleuze remain embedded within Christian theologies and intellectual histories; whether they embrace, resist, or negotiate with Deleuze's atheism, the atheism in question remains one extracted from Christian theology, a Christian atheism. In Sufi Deleuze, Michael Muhammad Knight offers an intervention, engaging Deleuzian questions and themes from within Islamic tradition. Even if Deleuze did not think of himself as a theologian, Knight argues, to place Deleuze in conversation with Islam is a project of comparative theology and faces the challenge of any comparative theology: It seemingly demands that complex, internally diverse traditions can speak as coherent, monolithic wholes. To start from such a place would not only defy Islam's historical multiplicity but also betray Deleuze's model of the assemblage, which requires attention to not only the organizing and stabilizing tendencies within a structure but also the points at which a structure resists organization, its internal heterogeneity, and unpredictable 'lines of flight.' A Deleuzian approach to Islamic theology would first have to affirm that there is no such thing as a universal 'Islamic theology' that can speak for all Muslims in all historical settings, but rather a multiplicity of power struggles between major and minor forces that contest each other over authenticity, authority, and the making of 'orthodoxy.' The discussions in Sufi Deleuze thus highlight Islam's extraordinary range of possibilities, not only making use of canonically privileged materials such as the Qur'an and major hadith collections, but also exploring a variety of marginalized resources found throughout Islam that challenge the notion of a singular 'mainstream' interpretive tradition. To say it in Deleuze's vocabulary, Islam is a rhizome'--.

In this book, the 1) origin or creation, 2) transmission or dissemination, and 3) use or consumption are key subjects for understanding the place of practical knowledge in early modern European society. After a historiographical and theoretical approach, this book applies Deleuze and Guattari's rhizome metaphor to art technological literature. The first part ends with a study about medical practitioners and mediators who disseminate practical knowledge through the printing press. The second part of the book is entirely dedicated to the booklet A Very Proper Treatise (1573), using a microhistory approach to study it.

Without losing sight of this critical framework, this study also takes into account Deleuze and Guattari's rhizome theory and Umberto Eco's theory on labyrinths. Borges 2.0 is unique in its analysis of how Borgesian texts relate to science and technology at the same time that science and the virtual world illuminate Borges's texts to provide a new reading of his work.

It explores how the sharing of real, night time dreams, in a group, can offer information on and insight into ourselves and the worlds we live in and share. It investigates how we can turn dream images, and ideas and feelings that arise from these images, into conscious thought, before describing the ways in which these can be used. Using a background of the psychosocial combined with a philosophical lens influenced by the work of Gilles Deleuze, Julian Manley shows how social dreaming can be understood as a Deleuzian 'rhizome of affects', a web or a root design where things interconnect in a random and spontaneous fashion rather than in a sequential or linear way. He illustrates how social dreaming can link dreams together into a collage of images, and compares this to the rhizome, where clusters of emotional intensity - which emerge from the dream images - weave and interconnect with other clusters, forming a web of interlinked dream images and emotions. From the basis of this rhizome emerges an interpretation of social dreaming as a 'body without organs' and the social dreaming matrix as a 'smooth space' where meanings emerge from the way these images form connections, and come and go according to our emotions at any particular moment.

This phenomenon can be a matter of perception rather than authorial intention: audiences may detect Shakespeare where the author disclaims him or have difficulty finding him where he is named. Douglas Lanier's 'Shakespearean rhizome,' which co-opts Deleuze and Guattari's concept of artistic relations as rhizomes (a spreading, growing network that sprawls horizontally to defy hierarchies of origin and influence) is fundamental to this exploration. Essays discuss the fine line between 'Shakespeare' and 'not Shakespeare' through a number of critical lenses-networks and pastiches, memes and echoes, texts and paratexts, celebrities and afterlives, accidents and intertexts-and include a wide range of examples: canonical plays by Shakespeare, historical figures, celebrities, television performances and adaptations, comics, anime appropriations, science fiction novels, blockbuster films, gangster films, Shakesploitation and teen films, foreign language films, and non-Shakespearean classic films.

Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - The book provides a multi-stage assessment of the changing housing opportunities of migrant workers in the three stages of Beijing's urban village development (emergence, erasure and preservation). The volume re-theorizes Henry Lefebvre's notion of the 'right to the city' as a largely property-based concept that falls within the city's hybrid tenure matrix of varying degrees of tenure security and formality that is undergoing entrepreneurialization or gentrification. This is another highly valuable contribution to China studies from the geographical perspective of the 'territorial politics' at play in the process of urban village redevelopment, which has fostered a new propertied landowning class as winners, while moving low-wage migrants. The book takes the reader on a fascinating journey from peri-urban villages to IT worker villages to artists' villages, revealing a restless landscape of urbanism and state-centered governance, as well as bottom-up counterplots. The fieldwork explores the contradictions of urban village redevelopment in Beijing. On the one hand, it is state-dominated and yet creates new housing opportunities for migrants; on the other, it disrupts old orders but also encourages new forms of grassroots alliances. The empirical studies of Beijing's urban villages enrich Henry Lefebvre's discourse on 'planetary urbanisation,' Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari's notion of the 'rhizome,' and Elinor Ostrom's ideas on the wise management of the 'commons.'.
