Paperback. Zustand: Very Good. A tale of survival and freedom, Stolen Innocence is the story of one heroic woman who stood up for what was right and reclaimed her life. In September 2007, a packed courtroom in St. George, Utah, sat hushed as Elissa Wall, the star witness against polygamous sect leader Warren Jeffs, gave captivating testimony of how Jeffs forced her to marry her first cousin at the age of fourteen. This harrowing and vivid account proved to be the most compelling evidence against Jeffs, showing the harsh realities of the lengths to which Jeffs went in order to control the sect's women. Now, in this courageous memoir, Elissa Wall tells the incredible and inspirational story of how she emerged from the confines of the Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day Saints (FLDS) and helped bring one of America's most notorious criminals to justice. Offering a child's perspective on life in the FLDS, Wall discusses her tumultuous youth, and explains how Warren Jeffs's influence over the church twisted its already rigid beliefs in dangerous new directions. Once she was married, Wall's childhood shattered as she was obligated to follow Jeffs's directives and submit to her husband in "mind, body, and soul." With little money and no knowledge of the outside world, she was trapped and forced to endure the pain and abuse of her loveless relationship, which eventually pushed her to spend nights sleeping in her truck rather than face the tormentor in her bed. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Zustand: Very Good. First edition. 150pp. Quarto [25.5cm]. Pictorial wraps. Light creasing and rubbing to wraps, with 7cm x 2cm loss to rear cover. Heavily illustrated feature on the FLDS church, following the 2008 raid of Yearning for Zion Ranch in Eldorado, Texas. Approximately 700 FLDS members relocated from the Short Creek region, under increasing scrutiny from Arizona and Utah law enforcement. President Warren Jeffs was facing a warrant for sexual assault allegations (of which he was soon convicted), and the church's practice of child marriage was becoming harder to ignore. Prior to his 2006 arrest, Jeffs was last seen in Eldorado - his proclamations were a major driving force in the relocation. It materialized that the raid was initiated by a prank call; a woman with a history of similar prank calls contacted authorities pretending to be a young FLDS girl experiencing abuse. In spite of the fraudulent nature of the instigating complaint, the raid found "a systematic process going on to groom these young girls to become brides." Gathered evidence led to the imprisonment of multiple members of church leadership.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Fundamentalist Mormon polygamy emerged from LDS Church President Wilford Woodruff's 1890 Manifesto, which ostensibly rescinded the practice of plural marriage among Mormons. This volume explores Mormon fundamentalism from several perspectives. Among the topics considered is the history of mainstream Latter-day Saint polygamy in Mexico, John Taylor's controversial 1886 revelation implying the irrevocability of polygamy, and the rise of fundamentalist Mormon polygamy in the early twentieth century. Other essays provide carefully crafted portraits of fundamentalist Mormon leaders such as Joseph White Musser, Rulon C. Allred, Rulon T. Jeffs, and Warren S. Jeffs. Also discussed is the 1980s schism between the FLDS church and Centennial Park Community, the 2008 Texas raid on the FLDS YFZ Ranch, and modern media stereotyping of Mormon polygamy. Three essays provide personal perspectives on present-day polygamy: a recollection of growing up within a fundamentalist Mormon community, a reading of D&C 132 from a fundamentalist perspective, and an examination of descendants of early Mormon polygamists who embraced fundamentalism. Other areas of research include the changing style of fundamentalist clothing and hair styles, fundamentalist attitudes and practices affecting African-Americans, and the plural wives of fundamentalist Mormon leaders. The volume concludes with a bibliographical evaluation of relevant literature. In this third volume of The Persistence of Polygamy, Newell G. Bringhurst and Craig L. Foster have assembled seventeen original essays that explore the fascinating history of plural marriage among fundamentalist Mormons-an enduring practice of The Principle.

It consists of various computational and experimental case studies conducted by the authors on the solar thermal collector system. The authors begin by developing thermal modeling using a case study that shows the effect of different governing parameters. A few more experimental cases studies follow that highlight the energy, exergy, and environmental performance of the solar thermal collector system and to examine the performance of a modified solar collector system, illustrating performance improvement techniques. Finally, application of different evolutionary optimization techniques such as soft computing and evolutionary methods, like fuzzy techniques, MCDM methods like fuzzy logic based expert system (FLDS), Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Grey relational analysis (GRA), Entropy-Jaya algorithm, Entropy-VIKOR etc. are employed.
