Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Die Froschauerbibel von 1531 ist ein reformations-, kultur- und sprachgeschichtliches Schlüsseldokument der Reformationszeit. Doch das ungewohnte Schriftbild macht diese Zürcher Bibel in der originalen Ausgabe schwer lesbar. Niklaus Ulrich hat sie deshalb vollständig transkribiert. Nachdem in dieser Transkription bereits das Neue Testament und die Psalmen publiziert worden sind («Jch bin das brot des läbens», 2018), erscheint nun auch das Alte Testament transkribiert. Damit sind auch diese durch Zwingli und weitere Übersetzer aus dem Urtext ins Deutsche übertragenen Texte erstmals als normale Buchausgabe erhältlich. Zum besseren Verständnis der einstigen, schweizerdeutsch anmutenden Sprache Zwinglis ist der Bibeltext von 2007 synoptisch beigegeben. Dem Bibeltext vorangestellt ist die kommentierte Übersetzung des aufschlussreichen Vorworts, in dem Ulrich Zwingli und Leo Jud ihre reformatorisch inspirierte Motivation zur Übersetzungstätigkeit darlegen.

Neuware - Wie Martin Luther und Philipp Melanchthon übersetzte auch Huldrych Zwingli zusammen mit anderen Gelehrten der Hohen Schule die Bibel aus dem hebräischen und griechischen Urtext ins Deutsche. Im Unterschied zu den Wittenbergern war das Zürcher Übersetzungswerk fünf Jahre vorher (1529) abgeschlossen. Von den zahlreichen Bibeln und Bibelteilen, die seit 1524 bei Christoph Froschauer erschienen sind, gehört die reich illustrierte Foliobibel von 1531 zu den schönsten und wichtigsten Druckwerken der Zeit. Von dieser Ausgabe gibt es weltweit nur noch drei kolorierte Exemplare, eines davon gehört zum Kirchenschatz des Grossmünsters und wurde 2010/2011 aufwendig restauriert. Der vorliegende Band beleuchtet die Entstehung der sogenannten Froschauer-Bibel sowie ihre Verbreitung in Europa und Nordamerika und fragt nach der Bedeutung dieser Reformationsbibel im 21. At the same time, he places his theological program in a traditional cultural context by translating Jewish, ancient and national language collections of proverbs into German.?Sebastian Franck (Eleutherius) was born at Donauwörth, in Swabia, studied in Ingolstadt and Heidelberg, and took holy orders in the diocese of Augsburg. In 1527 he served as a Lutheran pastor near Nürnberg, but one year later he joined the Anabaptist community in the imperial city. This association did not last long either, and in 1529 Franck moved to Strasbourg, where he tried to settle down as a writer and private scholar. He maintained personal contacts with such radical religious thinkers as Kaspar Schwenckfeld, Hans Denck, Johannes Bünderlin, Johannes Cam-panus, and perhaps also with Michael Servetus, who came to Strasbourg in 1531 to debate with Capito and Bucer. Denck and Bünderlin seem to have exerted a decisive influence upon Franck, who became more and more critical of all ecclesiastical institutions and adopted a fully spiritualist position. After having been expelled from Strasbourg in 1531 he spent some time at Esslingen, where he tried to make a living as a soap-boiler. In 1532 he moved to Ulm, where he set up a printing shop. His writings provoked the wrath of the Lutheran preachers, and on the initiative of Martin Frecht he was eventually banished again in 1539. After further wanderings he settled in Basel in 1541. Title with vignette, within historical border. Date of publication misprint on title (1469 instead of 1569). Illustrated headpiece, and decorative initials. First published in 1529, this copy is an early edition of the Zurich Bible, a Bible translation historically based on the translation by Huldrych Zwingli (1484-1531). Zwingli's translation grew out of the Prophezey, an exegetical workshop taking place on every weekday, with the participation of all clerics of Zürich, working at a German rendition of Bible texts for the benefit of the congregation. The translation of Martin Luther was used as far as it was already completed. This helped Zwingli to complete the entire translation five years before Luther. At the printing shop of Christoph Froschauer, the New Testament appeared from 1525 to 1529, and later parts of the Old Testament, with a complete translation in a single volume first printed in 1531, with an introduction by Zwingli and summaries of each chapter. The translation is mainly due to Zwingli and his friend Leo Jud, pastor at the St. Peter parish. The translation of the Old Testament was revised in 1540, that of the New Testament in 1574. Verse numbering was introduced in 1589. Contemporary inscription on title, as well as contemporary marginalia (in Hebrew and Latin) and underlining throughout. Clear waterstaining at upper margin of the first 136 leaves (not affecting lettering). Minor foxing to very first and very last leaves. Six leaves missing from the Index (Mundus to Victoria).
