Sie zählen mit Newtons Principia von 1687, die auf Galileis Arbeit aufbauen, zum wichtigsten Erbe des vergangenen Jahrtausends. Dennoch sind sie heute mindestens so unbekannt wie Newtons Buch. Das liegt an der geometrischen Methode dieser Autoren, die in der Philosophie nach Platon niemals heimisch geworden ist und der Wissenschaft nach Newton abhanden kam. Damit ging ein tragendes Element der geometrischen Bewegungslehre verloren.Galileis Bewegungsgesetz ist eine viergliedrige Verhältnisgleichung (tetraktys). Raum und Zeit sind darin quantisiert mit zueinander proportionalen Elementen präsent. Ihr Verhältnis reguliert als bisher unbekannte Naturkonstante die Wechselwirkung von immaterieller schöpferischer Kraft und materiellem Effekt. Gerade aus der Perspektive der modernen Physik hat das Konsequenzen für das mathematische und philosophische Verständnis der Bewegung: Galileis und Newtons Theorie folgt der Lehre von den gleichen ganzzahligen Vielfachen (Euklid, Elemente V, Def. 5). Sie ist eine diskrete oder Quantentheorie der Bewegung und ihrer Ursache in der gleichfalls diskreten »Raumzeit«. Für Galilei waren Indivisiblen im Anschluss an Nicolaus von Kues Nichtgrößen. Im Unendlichen gelten nicht die Regeln des Endlichen. Leibniz schuf dagegen ein Größenkonzept der Indivisiblen und des Unendlichen, das es ihm erlaubte, in begründeter Weise beliebige Kurven als gleichwertig mit unendlich vielen, unendlich kleinen Seiten anzusehen. Dieselben Regeln gelten im Endlichen wie im Unendlichen.Prof. Dr. Eberhard Knobloch wurde 1943 in Görlitz geboren und studierte Mathematik, Klassische Philologie und Geschichte der exakten Wissenschaften und der Technik. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Als GALILEI die natürliche Frage nach der Tragfähigkeit eines Krag balkens, der am freien Ende mit einem Gewicht belastet ist, in seinen 'Discorsi e dimostrazioni matematiche' aus dem Jahre 1638 als erster quantitativ zu beantworten versucht, nimmt er an, daß sich der 'Wider stand' des Materials gleichmäßig über die von ihm angenommene Zug zone verteilt und daß dieser Widerstand mit der Zugfestigkeit über einstimmt. Offenbar erkannte der große Italiener intuitiv, daß in einem Balken alle Reserven des Tragwerks mobilisiert werden müssen, bevor es endgültig zerstört werden kann. Fast zweihundert Jahre bewegte das Problem der Bruchfestigkeit der Tragwerke das Denken der Mathemati ker und Ingenieure, bis unabhängig voneinander YoUNG und mit absoluter Klarheit NAVIER den elastischen und den plastischen Vor formungsbereich eines Balkens voneinander trennen. NA VIER stellt fest, daß in demjenigen Bereich, in welchem die Verformungen proportional der Belastung sind, verhältnismäßig einfache mathematische Bezie hungen formuliert werden können, daß aber jenseits dieses Bereiches die entsprechenden Zusammenhänge recht kompliziert werden. Ins besondere sei es sehr schwierig, mit mathematischen Mitteln die Trag fähigkeit eines Balkens beim Bruch anzugeben. Die Elastizitätstheorie beherrschte seitdem die Forschung und wurde auf eine hohe Entwicklungsstufe gebracht.
