First edition. Hardcover. The true first printing of Clark's somewhat controversial book which was to be published in the United States but was suppressed. The Scalo edition came out two years later. A collection of video stills, collages and other images that continues to explore Clark's fascination with teenagers and sex. A very fine copy in a very fine dust jacket. Still in the publisher's shrinkwrap.

Hardback. First Edition. 24 x 29cm 175pp 110 four-colour and 48 duotone plates. Includes Clark's controversial black and white photographs from the "Tulsa" and Teenage Lust" work, as well as previously unpublished colour and black and white images. From the publisher: "Larry Clark's work has always obsessively circled around adolescent boys, their awakening sexual drives, the enormous energies they have to harness. Clark offers the viewer a cultural anthropology of this transitory period that oscillates between painful pleasure and exuberant self-destruction. Clark is spellbound with the vital, unruly, and destructive force teen boys exude. Clark confronts us with lucid images of male sexuality and its equally creative and destructive impulses. He combines pop-culture imagery with his own photographs to evoke a myth ingrained in the heart of our culture. The Perfect Childhood combines an overview of Clark's work-ranging from collages and found images to photographs from his native Oklahoma in the late 1960's-with a new series of tender and erotic portraits of a skater boy - the latest incarnation of the mythical eternal youth Clark investigates and idolises in his work. Near fine in near fine dustjacket.

"Larry Clark's work has always obsessively circled around adolescent boys, their awakening sexual drives, the enormous energies they have to harness. Clark is spellbound with the vital, unruly, and destructive force teen boys exude. Clark confronts us with lucid images of male sexuality and its equally creative and destructive impulses. Material from the past 30 years is combined to create one new work of art-overwhelming proof of the consistency of Clark's artistic vision. The book is as raunchy and brutally straightforward as it is melancholy and affectionate. Its attitude will confound all those thinking in comfortable and complacent opposites-gay and straight, creative and destructive, tenderness and violence, good and evil. Clark's work is a mirror for those strong enough to face the truth about growing up as a boy." This is a very good copy of an important and controversial work.

Zustand: Wie neu. Luhring Augustine, New York/ Simon Lee, London. 2007. First edition, first printing. New, unread, mint; originally shrink-wrapped in publisher`s plastic foil. Hardcover without jacket (as issued). 12.5 x 11.75 inch. 93 pages. 48 color illustrations. Text in english. Perfect condition! Collector`s copy! By the maker of two of the most important photobooks: Tulsa and Tennage Lust (Martin Parr, The Photobook, vol 1, page 260). The hero of this book and photographer Larry Clark clearly does see him as heroic is Jonathan Velasquez, a teenager Clark encountered at random who became his muse. Velasquez serves more as a vehicle, however, than a fully developed character. He is the "everyman" of disaffected teenagers. Clark followed him for three years, detailing with his camera the social interactions that make up the unique world of urban teenagers. This world exists almost completely beyond the consciousness of the adult world and, as a result, is less and less bound by its rules. In this untamed social environment, Clark finds an uninhibited passion for life. From the Publisher: "Los Angeles 2003-2006 reflects the artist's life-long interest in the subject of today`s youth within a marginalized urban environment. In this particular body of work, we witness the physical transformation of Jonathan Velasquez throughout the period of his adolescent years. Jonathan, a teenager living in South Central Los Angeles whom the artist encountered by chance, inspired Clark to write and direct the film Wassup Rockers. In this obsessive four year photographic chronicle of Jonathan`s life, we experience not so much the unfolding of a series of portraits but rather the weaving of the subject`s personal life within the context of a particular social milieu common to so many of today`s urban youth subcultures. Building upon Larry`s previous photographic accomplishments beginning with 'Tulsa,' 'Teenage Lust,' '1992,' 'The Perfect Childhood,' 'Punk Picasso,' and in film with 'Kids,' 'Bully,' 'Ken Park' and 'Wassup Rockers' this series of photographs further probes with equal intensity and unabashed honesty the often subtle, often glaring changes that all youth, and in particular Jonathan, go through in their teenage years. The close-up shots, the full length frontal views, the groupings of Jonathan with his friends all combine to portray the vulnerability as well as the subjects' expressions of newfound individuality, vitality and independence of life style. The large scale pigment prints reflect a departure for Clark from the more spare and documentary sensibility that characterize his earlier work, and in so doing allow for a more tender and evocative exploration of his subject."***************Luhring Augustine, New York/ Simon Lee, London. 2007.
