S. 5-45 Aus der Bibliothek von Prof. Wolfgang Haase, langjährigem Herausgeber der ANRW und des International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT). - Flecken an der Klammerung, am Fußschnitt und im unteren Bereich von Einband und ersten drei Seiten (nicht im Textbereich), Name des Autors auf dem Einband unterstrichen, Textblock gut und sauber. - Aus dem Text: Eine Untersuchung des Gebrauchs von Hymenaios und Epithalamion in der wissenschaftlichen Literatur zeigt, daß ihre begriffliche Festlegung und gegenseitige Abgrenzung nicht eindeutig geklärt ist. Zwar geben die üblichen Handwörterbücher, W. Pape-M. Sengebusch und H. G. Liddell-R. Scott-H. St. Jones einerseits und K. E. Georges anderseits, übereinstimmende Auskunft: Der Hymenaios ist jenes Hochzeitslied, das der Chor singt, der die Braut bei ihrem Weg aus dem Elternhaus in das des Bräutigams begleitet, Epithalamion hingegen jenes Chorlied, das vor dem thálamos der Neuvermählten gesungen wird. Ein Blick in die sonstige Literatur verwirrt jedoch das Bild. Allerdings wird, offenbar infolge der klaren Wortbedeutung, für Epithalamion ziemlich einheitlich dieselbe Ansicht vertreten wie in den Lexica. So auch in der wichtigen Dissertation von V. Koerber, De Graecorum hymenaeis et epithalamiis, Breslau 1877, der S. 9, Anm. 1 darauf verweist, daß bereits vor ihm verschiedene Gelehrte, Wernsdorff, Muret, Baumstark und Rode, derselben Auffassung waren (er übersieht A. J. Hartung, Philol. 3, 1848, 238), und in vielen späteren Arbeiten bis herauf zu H. Färber, Die Lyrik in der Kunsttheorie der Antike, München 1936, 1, 37. Immerhin weicht ein so maßgeblicher Gelehrter wie W. Schmid, Geschichte der griechischen Literatur, 1, 1, München 1929, 347 davon etwas ab; nachdem er nämlich das Epithalamion als das Ständchen gekennzeichnet hat, das den Neuvermählten vor dem Brautgemach dargebracht wird, fügt er bei, daß im weiteren Sinn darunter das Hochzeitslied überhaupt verstanden wird, selbst jenes, unter dessen Gesang die Braut in das neue Heim geleitet wird, also auch das nach dem Ausweis der Lexica Hymenaios genannte Lied. - Wikipedia: Robert J. Muth (* 1. Jänner 1916 in Innsbruck; 25. November 2008 ebenda) war ein österreichischer klassischer Philologe, der an der Universität Innsbruck tätig war.
