The first book printed in the Tigray/ Tigrinya language, exceedingly rare. *** 8°, without page nunmber, gatherings numbered ** (4 leaves) and 1 to 28 (8 leaves each). Full contemporary calf, worn and hinges broken, but holding on binding strips. Interior almost fine. *** The translation was done by the Abyssinian intellectual Matewos during the 1830s and revised by Isenberg. Upon its publication at Chrishona Mission Press, it became the first book published in Tigrinya/ Tigray, in Ge'ez script. It is still one of the most important extant contributions to Ethiopian and Eritrean literature.

Published the same year as Vito's Vocabulario dell lingua Tigrigna, this is one of the earliest dictionaries in Tigrinya. Moreover, it is only the second book published by the Swedish Mission Press and doubtless one of the first to be published on Ethiopic soil (Streclyn lists an earlier work dated 1894).
