After Eros / Cupid had shot them with different arrows Daphne would not return Apollo's love pursuits and eventually was turned into a laurel tree by her father Peneus. But Apollo still adored her and the laurel tree became eternally green and used to crown the heads of leaders (wrath). This plate symbolizes the Jesuits not running away from thing.
