Schweiger and Hoffmann record a Colines edition in 1522 (apart of those in 1524 and 1533) but that one seems to be a mistake: verifiable in 1522 is only an edition with Aristotle's ethical works by Colines. With the issue of the collected works presented here Aristotle (384 - 322 B.C.) can be considered "The founder of biology and . first of all Zoologists". There is a wide variety of themes, as shown from the following titles: "The origination of animals", "the history [actually types] of animals", "The motion of animals.", "Anatomy ." The fact that Aristotle left the research into botany to his friend and pupil, Theophrast, resulted in the first three works of Aristotle generally being issued together with the works of Theophrast in the Incunabula editions and in numerous editions throughout the 16th century and only relatively later on were the zoological works of the philosopher issued together. Jahrhunderts. - Aristoteles, der allgemein als Pionier der Zoologie gilt, umrahmt seinen Text, indem er erklärt, dass er das Was (die vorhandenen Fakten über Tiere) untersucht, bevor er das Warum (die Ursachen dieser Merkmale) feststellt. Das Buch ist somit ein Versuch, die Philosophie auf einen Teil der natürlichen Welt anzuwenden. Im gesamten Werk versucht Aristoteles, Unterschiede sowohl zwischen Individuen als auch zwischen Gruppen festzustellen. Eine Gruppe wird gebildet, wenn festgestellt wird, dass alle Mitglieder dieselben Unterscheidungsmerkmale haben, zum Beispiel, dass alle Vögel Federn, Flügel und Schnäbel haben. Diese Beziehung zwischen Vögeln und ihren Merkmalen wird als universell anerkannt.
