Tipped in on endpapers an article by Valeriu Marcu "Kurt Tucholsky zwischen Photography and Alphabet (Kurt Tucholsky between Photography and Alphabet)" "Deutschland, Deutschland Ueber Alles" by German-Jewish writer Kurt Tucholsky (1890-1935) is a work of fierce social criticism of the late 1920's Germany. Tucholsky, also a journalist and satirist, warned against antidemocratic tendencies and the threat of National Socialism. This is apparent in his choice of Heartfield's anti-Hitler photomontage on the cover of this work. His books were banned, blacklisted by the Nazi's as "Entartete Kunst," and burned. Tucholsky also wrote under the pseudonym Kaspar Hauser. Profusely illustrated with b/w reproductions of photographs by Tucholsky, W. Nettelbeck, Robert Sennecke, Hans Schroeder, Otto Storch, Otto Haeckel, R. Horlemann, and many others. Layout of book was design by John Heartfield. Text in German. Light wear along edges of binding and lightly rubbed. Front free endpaper cut out. Lightly starting at second to last page. Block lightly age-toned, not affecting photographs. Binding in very good, inteior in very good- condition overall.

In his richly illustrated book, German-Jewish journalist and writer, a left-wingdemocratandpacifist, Kurt Tucholsky (1890-1935) sharply criticizes the anti-democratic political processes of the late 1920's Germany and the threat of National Socialism. When the Nazis came to power in 1933, Tucholsky's work was among the first ones to be bannedas "un-German", and burned. He was also one of the first authors whose German citizenship was revoked. Das gilt auch für die Einzelbuchstaben der Schrift in den preussischen Farben schwarz-weiß-rot. Vielleicht gibt es eine Spezialuntersuchung, wie man seinerzeit den Herstellungsprozeß technisch bewältigt hat. Erhaltung: Die montierten Deckelbilder sind auf beiden Seiten komplett und unbeschädigt; nur an der unteren Außenecke (vorne) minimalst an den Kanten berieben. Der Leinenbezug ist etwas bestaubt aber die Rückenkanten sind ohne Einrisse. Auf dem fliegenden Vorsatz, dem Titelvorblatt (sowie dem unbedruckten Blatt davor), sowie dem Haupt-Titelblatt an der oberen Außenecke der Stempel des Erstbesitzers (Oskar Fischer, Berlin-Friedenau), dito auf dem rückseitigen Vorsatz. Auf der Seite 9 ein Bibliotheks-Stempel (Marx Engels Lenin Stalin Institut Bibliothek). Sonst ist innen alles sauber, fleckenlos und ohne weitere Eintragungen. Insgesamt ein gutes Exemplar.
