But in this book, we see Nosferatu: Phantom der Nacht as one of the masterpieces of the New German Cinema, a film that exhibits all of Herzog's melancholy and pessimistic romanticism as well as his spirituality and technical flair. Adapted from Bram Stoker's Dracula, and mindful of an earlier German version of that same novel, Herzog's film, with its terrifying coda in which the reincarnated fiend rides out into the world, is perhaps the most compelling screen treatment of the vampire myth. Die Filme die ich untersuchen werde sind Nosferatu Symphonie des Grauens aus dem Jahr 1922, vom Re-gisseur Friedrich Murnau, Nosferatu Phantom der Nacht von Werner Herzog aus dem Jahr 1979 und der letzte Film den ich untersuchen werde wird Bram Stokers Dracula sein von Francis Ford Coppola, aus dem Jahr 1992. Mithilfe dieser Hausarbeit möchte ich herausfinden, inwiefern das digitale Bild und neue Technologien zur Veränderung der Figur und auch der Rezeption beitragen. Weitere Untersuchungsfelder sind die Veränderung der Figur selbst, bezüglich ihres Aussehens, ihren Fähigkeiten und ihrer Symbolfunktion für die Gesellschaft. Die Figur des Draculas hat sich schon immer gut geeignet, um verschiedene Ängste oder Zwänge auf sie zu projizieren. Diese Tendenzen möchte ich in den Filmen gesondert untersuchen. Vorausgehend zu meinen Untersuchungen, werde ich kurz den Genrebegriff allgemein erklären und weiterhin das Vampirgenre, zu dem die drei Filme gehören erläutern. Da dieses Thema sehr umfangreich ist, kann ich leider auf Grund des begrenzten Rahmens nicht auf alle Besonderheiten der Filme eingehen. Doch werde ich zumindest einen ersten tiefen Einblick in die Thematik liefern.
