Otto Wilhelm Madelung (1846-1926) name is still connected with the eponym of Madelung Fetthals, a special form of lipomatosis. The description is based on three own observations and thirty cases from the literature. The patient described here in detail was 59 years old when he consulted Madelung 1884. The patient became short of breath, and the doctors were afraid that he would suffocate from his own fat. Madelung operated him repeatedly, the operation was complicated during the anesthesia but finally much of the fat tissue could be removed. Three weeks later he was sent home. He visited Madelung repeatedly thereafter, while the lipomas had become even more monstrous.
