How and why did the images of this region change during the eighteenth century? German description: Thema dieses Buches ist der deutschsprachige Gronland-Diskurs des 18. Jahrhunderts. Die Autorin untersucht ihn mittels Imagologie und Diskursanalyse auf drei interdiskursiven Ebenen: der Reiseliteratur, der Geschichtsphilosophien und der Belletristik. Im Mittelpunkt steht jeweils die Sicht auf Gronland von aussen, also die europaische Perspektive. Deutlich wird, dass die Bilder, die Gronland und die Gronlander als fremd oder exotisch markieren, wesentlich langer im Diskurs prasent bleiben als andere. Vom Beginn der Besiedelung Gronlands durch die Europaer um 1720 bis in die 1760er Jahre hinein stabilisieren sich erste Images, die ihren Ursprung zum Teil schon in den Reiseberichten des 17.
