Beschreibung:

Original pamphlet on early Hollywood cinema, written for German audiences by German film pioneers Ernst Lubitsch and E.A. DuPont. Seemingly an extended primer on early American films and filmmaking, with details on Hollywood's organized production methods, budgets, editing procedures, and actors, including Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks, Clara Bow, Gloria Swanson, Greta Garbo, John Barrymore, Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin, and more. In the wake of World War I, after German filmmaking had suffered from nearly five years of isolation, it then exploded in productivity and popularity during the Weimar era, taking many of its cues from Hollywood, as evidenced here. Ernst Lubitsch had plenty of experience in the Hollywood film industry, having directed in the United States since 1922, including "Rosita" (1922), "The Student Prince in Old Heidelberg" (1927), and "The Marriage Circle" (1924). E.A. Dupont also worked in Hollywood, becoming a moderate directorial success in German silent films before working in both London and Hollywood, including the Universal Pictures film "Love Me and the World Is Mine" (1926). 9.25 x 12.25 inches. Two-color wrappers, heavily illustrated with black and white photographs throughout. Very Good, with previous cello tape repair and a light crease to the center. Text in German.
